West Philadelphia Action for Early Learning is hosting a community read-along on Saturday, July 14, at United Bank, 3750 Lancaster Ave.
The event is targeted at children ages 3 to 5, but older siblings and friends are also welcome. A free bag lunch will be provided to the first 25 students.
The activities begin at noon, and the reading is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. De’Wayne Drummond, president of the Mantua Civic Association, will be reading My Cousin Momo, which is written and illustrated by Zachariah OHora of Narberth, Pa. The story, which is about celebrating and accepting differences, was a Boston Globe Best Book and Junior Library Guild Selection in 2015.
West Philadelphia Action for Early Learning is a Drexel University-led initiative that emphasizes literacy in an effort to better prepare children for kindergarten. It also works toward the goal of making sure that children read at grade level by 3rd grade.
