Notebook launches $20,000 fund drive

As we head into a critical transition to a new school board and city accountability for schools, the Notebook needs reader support.

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

The Notebook has launched a membership and donation drive to raise funds to support our news organization’s operations through the summer. This fundraising campaign is crucial to continuing our daily work on online news articles, supports our production of the annual Fall Guide to High Schools and provides the funding we need to hire a new part-time news editor.

We know that you count on the Notebook to bring you accurate, independent information about what’s going on in the District.

The Notebook’s popular “Education is a public good” T-shirt is available as a premium to anyone who donates $100 or more before June 30, 2018. See story for details.

This summer is a critical time for changes in District governance and funding. If you value the Notebook’s coverage, please step up with a donation today.

The Notebook has more than 30,000 unique visitors to our website each month. We have more than 7,000 followers on Facebook and Twitter each, yet less than 10 percent are members. We need your support today.

Notebook readers who donate now to become members or renew their memberships will receive benefits through June 30, 2019.

Anyone who donates $100 or more between now and the end of June will receive their choice of one of our two popular Notebook T-shirts — Education is a public good or #ArmMeWith (featuring a list items such as books, supplies, and hope- see photos). Once your make your donation of $100 or more, please email notebook@thenotebook.org with your name, mailing address, preferred shirt size and choice of shirt. Questions? The Notebook must raise at least $20,000 by the end of June to offset the loss of some foundation funding in our 2017-18 budget. In addition, we plan to bring on board a part-time news editor to assist with our daily online coverage of public education and with our free print editions. You can find details about the editorial position here.

Please help spread the word to other Notebook readers that if they value having independent, critical information and perspectives about public education, they need to become Notebook supporters. Readers may think that foundations and ad revenues cover our bills, but they are not enough. Help us grow our membership by liking us on Facebook and telling your friends why you are supporting the Notebook.
