Notebook kicks off year-end fund drive and announces matching gift

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

The Notebook celebrated 21 years of publishing and honored noted photographer Harvey Finkle on Tuesday before a packed house at University of the Arts.

The organization also kicked off a major, year-end fundraising drive at the event. Between now and June 30, the Notebook must raise $45,000.

The campaign got off to a great start with the announcement of a $5,000 challenge gift by Notebook board member Jolley Bruce Christman for donations received this week. Each donation will be matched dollar for dollar. The Notebook has already met more than half the challenge after receiving $2,900 toward that match from dozens of donations and memberships at the event.

We are turning to the Notebook‘s readers to help us meet the goal.

Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online or by sending a check or money order to the Notebook at 699 Ranstead St., Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Explaining the campaign at Tuesday’s event, Notebook board member Katey McGrath said, "The volunteers on the board and the Notebook staff are committed to making sure the organization ends the year with a balanced budget. If you count on the work of the Notebook and want to see that kind of reporting and information continue, we truly need you to join.

"Thousands of people read the Notebook, but our contributors number in the hundreds. We need to close that gap."

Contribute today to take advantage of the matching gift. And check back for news on the Notebook‘s campaign.
