Two charters face non-renewal at special SRC meeting

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

The School Reform Commission will consider the renewal of 14 charter schools at a special SRC meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Among the schools, two have been recommended for non-renewal: Delaware Valley Charter High School and Universal Bluford Charter School, which would be the first Renaissance turnaround school to face non-renewal.

After a presentation from a District charter office staffer, who will outline each of the proposed actions, public speakers will be given time to comment. Then the SRC will vote on each of the proposed renewals and non-renewals.

A vote for non-renewal starts a process that can take multiple years.

The list of schools being considered at tonight’s meeting can be found here. The meeting can be viewed live online or by tuning into at PSTV (Comcast Channel 52).
