Nutter uses King Day speech to call for full funding of education

An event meant to honor Nelson Mandela became a bit of an education policy debate Monday. Dignitaries and politicians gathered on Independence Mall to honor the late South African leader in the annual Martin Luther King Day ringing of the Liberty Bell.

Philadelphia’s Mayor Nutter spoke in front of an audience that included Gov. Corbett, publicly calling for a "fair and full" education funding formula.

Nutter has been criticized by some for not lobbying Corbett more aggressively for more education funding in the midst of the Philadelphia School District’s draconian cuts to staff and services.
