Imani Education Circle Charter School in Germantown may have to fight to stay open beyond the end of this school year.
According to a list of pending resolutions for the School Reform Commission’s Wednesday meeting, District staff is recommending that the 14-year-old charter be closed down.
The non-renewal recommendation is based on an academic assessment, a financial audit, and a site visit, according to District spokesman Fernando Gallard.
Gallard noted that the resolutions to renew 14 charters and deny two are still "pending" and may be pulled before Wednesday’s vote.
Administrators at Imani did not respond when reached for comment.
The K-8 school, one of Philadelphia’s oldest charters, failed to meet state benchmarks for "adequate yearly progress" the last two years, though it made AYP five of the six years before that. Only 42 percent of Imani’s students were considered proficient in reading and math last year, according to recent PSSA results.
Imani received an 8 on the District’s now-recalculated School Performance Index for 2011, a score of 10 being the worst. Recalculated scores for 2012 are not yet available.
Also being recommended for non-renewal is Discovery Charter, which is embroiled in a dispute over enrollment caps with the District.
