Photos: Protesters tell SRC ‘Don’t close our schools’

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

About 200 people, angered by the mass school-closings plan, disrupted the School Reform Commission meeting on the afternoon of Feb. 21 and then stopped traffic outside School District headquarters on Broad Street for about 15 minutes. They marched to the front of the SRC meeting room while commissioners were conducting business and turned their backs to the SRC members while chanting and hoisting signs.
