Summer edition happy hour a success!

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

The Notebook recently hosted a lively happy hour to celebrate the release of our Summer 2012 print edition. The event was held at the City Tap House in University City and coincided with the Education Writers Association’s national conference taking place just blocks away at the University of Pennsylvania.

This was our most well-attended happy hour yet!

Maybe so many people came out to City Tap House because it was a beautiful May evening, or because this was the last edition of the 2011-12 school year and everyone needed a well-deserved moment to relax. The delicious snacks and fine drinks, one FREE for each member of the Notebook, were a bonus. Meeting new friends and partners from around the United States was a plus – many EWA participants joined in the fun from Baltimore, San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Colorado, to name a few. Thanks to the staff at the City Tap House.

As we come to the end of our print coverage for the current school year, we hope you have enjoyed our happy hours and plan to come to our annual June event, Turning the Page for Change, on Tuesday, June 12, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., when we will highlight our Strength in Community.

Look for more happy hours in fall 2012, including some fun new ideas for each!
