School Reform Commissioner Joseph Dworetzky, who has served on the SRC since October 2009, is moving to San Francisco but still intends to remain with the School Reform Commission.
Dworetzky confirmed today that he will head to the West Coast with his wife, Anne Banse, a top executive with Comcast Corp. who is starting a new office there as head of Comcast Ventures. He expects to move at the end of August, and plans to live there at least two years. The appointee of former governor Rendell said he plans to commute to Philadelphia and stay for more than a week each month at his own expense, long enough to overlap with the two monthly Wednesday SRC meetings.
“I am committed to making this work,” Dworetzky said today.
He said he intends to complete his five-year term with the commission, where he says he has focused on developing the Adaptive Reuse Policy of the facilities master plan, and supporting the Renaissance Schools initiative, athletics, and afterschool programs.
Had Dworetzky stepped down, it would have left open two seats on the commission for Gov. Tom Corbett to fill. The governor has yet to fill the seat vacated by Commissioner David Girard-DiCarlo in February. The third SRC slot filled by the governor is held by Commissioner Denise McGregor Armbrister, also a Rendell appointee, and has a term that ends in January 2012.
