If you have an appetite for numbers, you might want to dig into the District’s 431-page budget book, just posted on the District’s website in time for upcoming City Council hearings next Monday and Tuesday at City Hall. Several other public meetings on the budget are scheduled, including one tonight at King H.S.
A few items of interest inside the budget book (page numbers appear on the bottom of each page and do not correspond to pages of the pdf file):
- page 50 is an organizational chart
- starting on page 59 is a detailed description of the District’s operating revenue sources
- starting on page 64 are listings of the major grant funds going to the District
- starting on page 102 is the real meat of the document, detailed breakdowns of each budget line, where you can find information about staffing levels, salaries, and other expenditures for every program area.
Dig in and let us know what you find interesting.
If your appetite is not so big, a more accessible introduction to the District’s budget, the budget in brief, is also online, as is the presentation that Chief Business Officer Michael Masch and his colleagues have given before the School Reform Commission and community hearings.
