Call for Renaissance reaction

This article was originally published in The Notebook. In August 2020, The Notebook became Chalkbeat Philadelphia.

Here at the Notebook, we’ve anxious to hear from parents, teachers, and school staff who may be affected by the District’s Renaissance plan.

The 14 schools listed as “Renaissance Eligible” face an uncertain future. They could see their entire staff and administration replaced. They could become a charter school. Or after further review, the District could decide that some schools don’t need any major changes after all. They will likely have new responsibilities as well as new resources. No matter what, education advocates and Philadelphians will be watching them carefully to see what comes of this latest experiment.

We’d like to invite anyone involved in one of the 14 Renaissance-eligible schools to contact us to share thoughts, concerns, and hopes for this process.

We have just a few days before our print edition goes to bed, so please call or write immediately if you’d like to add your voice to the conversation.
