The article in the Summer 2009 edition “Screening for teachers with the right stuff” incorrectly stated that teachers coming into the School District of Philadelphia through the Teach for America alternative certification pathway bypass the attitude-screening process that is used with other applicants for District teaching positions.
All Teach for America teachers in the School District are screened by the District just like other candidates, using the Haberman Pre-Screener. Teach for America applies additional screens described in the article, as well as the Haberman test. The Notebook regrets the error.
