Shortchanged … on college readiness

  • The District reports a 63 percent graduation rate for 2005-06. Other recent studies have put even the six-year graduation rate at below 60 percent.
  • Of those graduates, only 41 percent are going on to post-secondary institutions, according to a national database that monitors college-going.
  • Half of Philadelphia eleventh graders score Below Basic in math on the state standardized test, and 46 percent score Below Basic in reading.
